The Assessor's office is responsible for valuation of all real estate, personal property
and motor vehicles as prescribed by State Statutes. We are responsible to update any transfers of property,
land splits, sub divisions and any new construction. Renovations and improvements continue to keep our
office busy with inspections. We list, measure and update our records adding to the tax list as required.
We have our maps along with our street cards on the Town of Plainfield's web site. They are not only a
great asset to the assessor's office but for all departments and residents.
Personal Property is always a challenge for our office. Listing every piece of equipment for each business
in Town. We look at copies of trade names filed with the Town Clerk for new business in town. We then add
the new business to our personal property listing.

We are responsible for many programs throughout the year. Tax Freeze program for the elderly, Elderly and
Totally Disabled Homeowners and Renters. The State of Connecticut sets income limits every year. You can
check with the assessor's office to see if you qualify to receive the benefit. We also have a new local
option that will give $100.00 extra to anyone that qualifies for the Elderly and Disabled Homeowners.
Veterans Exemptions, Additional Veterans, Disabled and Blind, Enterprise Zone, Manufacturing Machinery and Equipment
Exemptions and New Commercial Motor Vehicle Exemptions are all filed in the Assessors office. Farm, Forest and Open
Space applications that were filed in our office and are approved are listed in the Land Records every year with the
Town Clerk. The State of Connecticut is no longer overseeing the Forestland classifications. The approval by a
certified forester is given to the Assessors office.
The Town has many programs with exemptions for anyone who qualifies. See exemptions for detailed information.
