The Town of Plainfield Highway Department maintains, improves, and keeps approximately 100
miles of paved roads in safe travel condition with the Town. Highway maintenance includes
repairing, replacing and adding box culverts and catch basins, cleaning catch basins and
waterways, brush and limb cutting, sweeping roads, maintaining guideposts, sign replacement,
mowing roadside grass, patching potholes, snow removal and ice control.
The department strives to resolve residents' problems related to road and drainage both
quickly and courteously. Our highway crew also picks up bagged leaves and brush clippings
left at the roadside in the spring and fall. We also assist in the maintenance of all four
fire stations, the schools, the recreation department, the medical center in Moosup, the
Plainfield Industrial Park and Incubator Building.

The Highway department also assists with the infrastructure grants the town receives by offering
in-kind services to offset the 10% match required by HUD. This has resulted in the Town saving
thousands of dollars that would have come from your tax dollars.
Brush and bagged leaves will be picked up twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall.
Biodegradable paper bags must be used. The Town will notify the taxpayers prior to each village's
two week pick-up time.
