Text Box: 2007 Revaluation Old & New Assessments

Welcome to Plainfield, Connecticut

We are responsible for many programs throughout the year.  Tax freeze program for the elderly, elderly and totally disabled homeowners and renters, veterans exemptions, additional veterans, disabled and blind, enterprise zone, manufacturing machinery and equipment exemptions, and new commercial motor vehicle exemptions are all filed in the Assessor’s office.  Farm, forest, and open space applications are approved and filed with the Town Clerk every year.

We have had an increase in new construction this year with many additions and new homes built in Plainfield.  Plainfield has many aspects of different types of property.  Our industrial and commercial properties continue to grow helping to add to our tax base.

The Assessor’s Office is responsible for valuation of all real estate, personal property, and motor vehicles as prescribed by State statutes.  We are responsible to update any transfers of property, land splits, subdivisions, and any new construction.  Renovations and improvements continue to keep our office busy with inspections.  We list, measure, and update our records adding to the tax list as required.  We have been working on our mapping with a Geographical Information System (GIS).  We are close to the final stage and hope to have it available soon.  It will not only be a great asset to the assessor’s office but for all departments and residents.

We have been working hard on the revaluation for the October 1, 2002 Grand List.  The real estate market has taken an upward swing and the years of 2001 and 2002 have brought a considerable increase to the market sales.  The Town is now required to do a revaluation every four years to bring the assessment ratio to a 70% of market value.
