Permits


Notary public
The Town Clerk's office provides notary services to the public. To have a document notarized, it is free for Plainfield residents and $5.00 for non-residents. You must be able to provide a valid photo ID upon signing the document. Do NOT sign the document before arrival. We must be able to see the entire document when notarizing – please be prepared to have the complete document, and not just the signature page.

The Town Clerk's office does NOT notarize the following documents:
  • Power of Attorneys
  • Wills or Living Wills
  • Land Documents that will be filed in Plainfield
  • Various legal contracts
  • Vital Records (i.e. Birth, Death, & Marriage Records)

Becoming a Notary Public:  If you are becoming or renewing your title of Notary Public, you must file your Notary Certificate of Appointment with the Town Clerk's office in which the notary resides. The fee to file the notary certificate is $20.00.



Permits

For Vendor Permits, you must go to the police department BEFORE submitting the application to our office. The paperwork you receive from the police department must be provided in order to apply for the vendor permit. It costs $20.00 to file a vendor permit. All applications shall be submitted with all required supporting data and fees at least thirty (30) business days prior to the proposed date of the event.

trade Name Certificates
A trade name certificate can be obtained from the Clerk's office for $13.00 ($10 to file the trade name and $3 for a certified copy). To file a trade name certificate, please fill out the form below. All individuals conducting the business must sign the form. You may have it signed by someone in our office when filing or have it notarized by a third party prior to filing.


To file a cancellation of a trade name, you may fill out the form below. All individuals conducting the business must sign the form. You may have it signed by someone in our office when filing or have it notarized by a third party prior to filing. There is no fee to file a cancellation.
